happy rosé in the rain happy hour!
Rosé isn’t just for sunny days. You can have it whenever (even in winter, but thankfully we are not in the Season of Hell and we are in fact in Season of Joy even if it’s been rainy). Love this frosty glass, which looks like it has a heart in it, which is appropriate. This is … Continue reading
the official world cup wine
Brazil isn’t known for their wine (more cachaça cocktails), but don’t let that stop grapefriends from getting into the futbol spirit. There isn’t just one but three official World Cup wines. Lidio Carraro launched a line called Faces, and gets to put the official FIFA seal on the bottles and serve them at the World Cup. The winery is based in Serra … Continue reading
what rosato do GIRLS drink?
So last week Lena Dunham and Katie Holmes had dinner at Osteria Morini. I find this an incredibly odd pairing, as did pretty much everyone else. People are speculating all over the place about why these two completely opposite end of the cool spectrum girls would be eating together. Grapefriend has some questions too! 1) what did they … Continue reading
grape passport: rias baixas
I travel to explore wine, so by no means are my travel posts exhaustive in terms of sightseeing. Just good tips to help your grapey travel experiences. Rias Baixas is in the northwest of Spain, north of Portugal, and a fun way to drink a lot of Albariño while seeing a part of Spain that’s much … Continue reading
rias baixas rundown
Back from a great trip to Rias Baixas, which is in the Galicia part of Spain, right north of Portugal. At this point I’m probably more Albariño than human, but while I detox I’ll share the more interesting things I learned. 1 albariño is the star grape Most wine growing regions grow a few types of … Continue reading
Albariño of the day: Pazo Señorans 2013
Did a vertical tasting at Pazo Señorans, an absolutely gorgeous winery built in the 14th century in Rias Baixas. It’s always great to taste the same wine from different years side by side to really see the nuances. And with Albariño, it’s a rare thing since most is drunk young. That said, we’ve had a … Continue reading
Albariño of the day: Señor da Folla Verde
We’ve had a lot of Albariño here in Rias Baixas, and it’s been interesting to try different styles. This Señor da Folla Verde is a blend of 70% Albariño, 15% Loureira, and 15% Treixadura. Yellow and green apple with tons of white floral. So pretty! And, was fantastic with our piping hot gambas al ajillo. … Continue reading
Albariño of the day
When you’re in Rias Baixas, you drink a ton of Albariño. It makes up 96% of the wine they make here, so that makes sense. It’s one of the only wine regions that’s so weighted to just one grape. It’s a great wine for summer – really crisp and citrusy. Great for seafood and summer … Continue reading

Just got to Spain and will be drinking some awesome Albariño and other vinos all week, so stay tuned!
