august values & splurges

So many good ones this month.

values

Tussock Jumper Chenin Blanc: I go back and forth on Chenin and I think it’s just a matter of finding a good one. This one has great waxy white melon, piquant lemon and unripe pineapple and is only $11.99!

Saget La Perriere “Marie de Beauregard” Cab Franc: Such a great light/medium bodied option for reds, and in summer you can even put a lslight chill on them. This one had lovely black tea and muted black cherry notes, a great value for a red wine at $20.

Mt. Beautiful Riesling: This is a dry version of Riesling if that’s what you prefer. A petrol note underscores the orange peel and honeysuckle.$22

Hiruzta Txacoli: It’s pronounced cha-co-LEE and it’s from Galicia in northwest Spain. A hint of saline from its proximity to the ocean makes it excellent with shellfish and this is one of the best I’ve ever had! Have it with tapas at Buceo 95like I did, or get it here for $18.99.

and one splurge

SLH Orchestral Pinot Noir: Santa Lucia Highlands is making some of the most interesting Pinot Noir in the US – restrained but still lovely black cherry and light cola notes. A worth-it splurge at $90.
