Jean Luc Colombo Les Abeilles: This white Côtes du Rhône (80% Clairette and 20% Roussanne) has notes of apple blossoms and tangy yellow apple. Chateau Malescasse 2017: Juicy berry fruit and eucalyptus with a healthy shot of acid from this blend of 45% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Petit Verdot. $19
splurges
Duckhorn Rector Creek Vineyard Merlot:
So this is a big splurge but it is excellent Merlot. Black plum, warm blueberry, and a touch of baked cinnamon. Deep earth notes contribute to the lush texture, and 17% Cab give it just enough structure. Well worth aging this one. I had a 2010, you can get the 2018 for $105.
Ca’ del Bosco Cuvée Prestige: Absolutely delicious Franciacorta with 75% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Bianco and 15% Pinot Nero. A slightly savory-herbal hint balances out the ripe yellow apple. A bigger bubble than Champagne, but not overly aggressive. $43
