wine for the last watch

Now that we’re all heartbroken that the last episode of the series has aired, we get one more taste tonight as the documentary Game of Thrones: The Last Watch covers the making of the final season. Weep into your goblets filled with wine from the Amalfi Coast.
  • White: Emilia Clarke (who plays Mother of Dragons Daenerys Targaryen) drank this in Rome last February after filming, a white blend of Falanghina, Ginestra and Pepella (never even heard of those last two – Italy has thousands of grapes!). It’s $33 and sounds delicious.
  • Red: I just had wine from the Amalfi Coast for the first time. The owner of Bergamot Wine Club gave me this 2016 Marisa Cuomo Furore Rosso and I loved it. Their site has excellent notes too (“It has a beautifully velvet texture, but think old velvet as in a vintage fabric or furniture”). They also note that the “vertically terraced maze of vineyards that scale the cliffs above the village of Furore are truly something out of a fantasy series.” I think I’m onto something here with my GoT pairing!!! This was part of their February club shipment but you can find it here for $23.
