the 12 days of fizzmas: alsace on day 1

FIZZMAS. IS. HERE!!!

.
I love Champagne, but there’s so much bubbly being made all over the world that I decided to explore around. And what better time to do it than the holidays? So I’m bringing you one good sparkling wine I’ve never had before, from lots of different countries, every day until Christmas. Cheers and get popping!

Today’s bubbly is an awesome crémant from Alsace from Helfrich. There is so much to love in that sentence! Since it’s Fizzmas, we’ll start with the crémant part: crémant is a type of bubbly that’s made in the exact same way as they make it in the Champagne region, but since it’s illegal to call it Champagne outside of that area they’ve called it crémant. It’s one of the best values and best secrets of the bubbly world.
.
Second, Alsace is a region in France that makes amaaaazing wine. I love the Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, and Riesling from the region and many of them aren’t expensive either. Whenever you see anything from Alsace on a by the glass wine list, go for it.
.
And third, Helfrich is an amazing producer there. Went to a lunch with them a while ago and every wine was delicious. So when I got this crémant I figured I’d like it and wasn’t disappointed at all. It’s 100% Pinot Blanc so full of light, white florals, and about $20. Plus, it comes in this cool bottle.

  1. Fizzmas!! I love it and can’t wait to try several of these. It’s good to read reviews by someone who knows what they’re talking about. I’m currently writing a way less classy version of this on one of my blogs–Cheap Champagne for Cheap Women. http://ashrobbins.wordpress.com/ I’ll have to put a link to your blog in there to lead more serious drinkers to the good stuff.

  2. Love the idea of Fizzmass, I can’t wait to see what else you’re trying. Cremant d’Alsace is always such a great alternative to Champagne. Their sparkling rose’s are great too!
