The Eagles now have a wine, to celebrate their 80th anniversary. THE EAGLES!!! OMG 80 years and they have never won a Super Bowl! Never!!! And they have wine??? Why does the world hate me? Blech, the Eagles are the worst. OK fine they’re in my division (I’m Giants if you don’t already know). But I do also think the fans are pretty obnoxious, and I’m not alone. Check this out – I didn’t even make it!
I wish it were a really sucky Pinot Grigio or, worse, Moscato! But it’s a Napa Cab called Rollout ($30 here).
But SNORE to another football-team Napa Cab (the Eagles grapes are specifically 65% from Napa and 35% Dry Creek Valley). Chargers Legacy and Jets Uncorked are also both Napa Cabs (and the Redskins make one from Sonoma). How does that even represent the team? So I have a new mission: I am going to get the Giants to make a team wine, and I don’t want it to be a Napa Cab. Instead, I want it to be something that represents our fine state of New York and made right from the area that loves the G-men (even when they’re 0-4). How about a Cab Franc from Long Island? A Riesling from the Finger Lakes? We are going to rock this, Giants-style! I’m going to reach out to some NY wineries and then start working on the Giants. Let me know if you want to join the charge!
PS this has nothing to do with wine but found it fascinating: There are actually 10 teams that have been to the Super Bowl (years shown) but never won:
- Minnesota Vikings (0-4) 1970, 1974, 1975, 1977
- Buffalo Bills (0-4) consecutively 1991-1994
- Cincinnati Bengals (0-2) 1982, 1989
- Philadelphia Eagles (0-2) 1981, 2005
- San Diego Chargers (0-1) 1995
- Atlanta Falcons (0-1) 1999
- Tennessee Titans (0-1) 2000
- Carolina Panthers (0-1) 2004
- Seattle Seahawks (0-1) 2006
- Arizona Cardinals (0-1) 2009
Even worse, there are 4 teams that have never even played in a Super Bowl! I kind of feel bad for them now.
- Cleveland Browns
- Detroit Lions
- Houston Texans
- Jacksonville Jaguars
Do the Colts have a wine?
No – are you a Colts fan?
I am and I’m feeling quite left out……
I hear ya, grapefriend!
As a long suffering bears fan, I sort of fear for what a Bears wine would taste like.
Haha – well, it apparently would just be a Napa Cab – a Cub Cab!
E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!!
noooooooo 😉 Are you gonna get the wine?
Uh, no….
This post was awesome…loved the NFL and wine info…and as part of a household of Steelers/Cowboys/Panthers fans…I agree…the Cowboys/Steelers fans can be obnoxious!
That’s a lot of teams in one house! We’re all Giants but I have friends who are die-hard about their own teams and I pull for them (if they’re not playing us!). But never the Eagles.
Originally from Cleveland, I think it’s safe to say that we’re used to being let down when it comes to our sports teams! I don’t think I’d want to drink a wine celebrating the Browns unless it had a cool Dawg Pound logo. Even then, I probably wouldn’t drink it…I’d just display the bottle for the label.
I feel for you! Wine is here to ease the blow…
What would the nose be like for a football-team wine? Perhaps more than a soupçon of gymshoe…
