Kate Middleton celebrated her 30th birthday last night with a private dinner for a small group of friends. So far no details on what they ate or, more importantly, drank. Did they pop open some leftover Pol Roger champers from the wedding? Did they down some Casa Lapostolle Sav Blanc like they did the night before the wedding? Or, did they grab one of the gifts people gave them while they travelled all over the place last year?
Just published was the “List of gifts given to TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall on official overseas tours during 2011.” Quite the odd read what with all the commemorative pins (SNOREDOM) and handmade cards (cute) listed. But of course, we’ll focus on the grapes.
Canada actually appears to be one of the only grapefriendly countries, giving Kate & Wills a bottle of icewine and a bottle of champagne. Icewine, btw, is a Canadian specialty where grapes are harvested in the middle of the freezing night and turned into a deliciously sweet wine. My fave kind is the Inniskillin Cab Franc.
Not to be totally outdone by Canucks, however, the US sort of repped by gifting a pair of wine coasters. Hey, you gotta put the bottles on something, and we’re there to help out!
