champagne needs more meunier!

For a beautiful bubble, sip no further than Eric Taillet. These wines are total gems. Rarely is Champagne all Pinot Meunier (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir usually dominate the three-grape Champagne blend), but Pinot Meunier gives such a delicacy and beautiful pink rose notes

I’d honestly drink all-Meunier all the time if I could find it more. Before 1992, it was the most widely planted grape in Champagne until Pinot Noir and Chardonnay increased. Now out of about 4200 domaines in Champagne, only about 50 are known for a focus on Meunier. Good news: Eric Taillet makes almost all all-Meunier Champagnes and they’re fantastic. Bad news: They only make 55k bottles a year! Luckily I had four of those bottles at a recent dinner with Eric.

  • Exclusiv’T: Lovely red currants, strawberry and fresh croissant notes.
  • Luminosi’T Brut Rosé: This one is from all-clay soil, giving creamier raspberry, button mushroom, and almond notes. Heady!
  • Renaissance Extra Brut: Subtler green apple with a touch of green pear. Great with wagyu.
  • Sur le Grand Marais Brut Nature: What a difference 10% Chardonnay makes — lots of creamy red apple notes here.

Btw, all of these wines were excellent with the Korean food at Oiji MI. The lobster ramyun noodles with chili, sesame and cucumber was ridiculous. Bubbles are just so good with creamy and spicy foods.
