When you say Finger Lakes and wine in the same sentence, most people wince. But for grapefriends who know better, this region has really elevated their wines in recent years. I just sampled through a bunch of their 2023 rosés, which I’d never had before (the region is probably mostly known for Riesling). Also, they’re all screw caps which I’d love. It’s rosé — you don’t have to be fussy. And when you’re bringing along on a summer picnic, it’s super convenient. Here are three worth seeking out:
Boundary Breaks: Made from Cab Franc, this one has sort of a funky-dirt aroma. Very vibrant on the palate with sour strawberry cream and sour white cherry notes. Would be good with a peppery arugula salad.
Anthony Road: Fresh, fresh watermelon juice. Very light with a hint of bitter orange rind on the finish. Also made form Cabernet Franc, it’s perfect for your first glass of the day.
Dr. Konstantin Frank: Rosé of Saperavi (a grape common in the country of Georgia) has a way funky aroma, with a ton of cranberry on the palate. Really interesting and different from any other rosé you’ll probably have this summer. Approach it with an open mind it’s not your typical pale pink Provençal!
