Matt Ryan threw for 440 yards in his first game of the 2014 season – holy moly! He’s the 5th QB since the AFL-NFL merger to throw for at least 440 yards in a season-opening win. The even better news? All the previous four guys who did that made the playoffs.
As insane as 440 yards, that’s not even close to the record for yards thrown in a single game. 15 QBs have thrown over 500 yards, with the highest being Norm Van Brocklin for 554 yards in 1951. In more recent times, the Texans’ Matt Schaub threw for 527 yards last year.
I have a newfound soft spot for the Falcons after watching Hard Knocks this weekend. I cried twice.
So what wine should we give the Falcons QB? Well remember the TV show Falcon Crest? The series was set in the fictitious Tuscany Valley (think: Napa). So why don’t we give him some good Brunello, which is from Tuscany and made from Sangiovese grapes? Well done, Matty boy. I’m only scared because I’m going to the Giants-Falcons game in October and I want to be beat you.
You’re getting to be a real sports reporter with a twist of grape!
Holy moly indeed. I left him on the bench in my fantasy league. A mistake I won’t make again. We toast you Mr Ryan!
Bench points are the worst! Good luck next week…
