1 duck, duck, grapes
The guy and his son who own Renacer are both named Patricio but their nickname is Pato which means Duck. Obviously, they gotta have some ducks at the winery then.
2 they make an amarone style wine in argentina
Renacer’s Amarone-style wine is called Enamore (a near-anagram for Amarone). Amarone is from the Valpolicello area of the Veneto region in Italy and made with Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara grapes. In Mendoza, though, they use their own grape varieties: Malbec of course, Bonarda, Cabernet, and Cab Franc. The process for making Amarone involves drying the grapes outside until they lose about 30% of their weight. In Verona this takes about 3-4 months but in dry Mendoza it only takes about 3-4 weeks. They dry it on mats outside under this tent.
3 pastellitos
When I say they served me the absolute most amazing empanada, I’m not lying. Why so amazing? It was fried. And once you fry up one of those puppies, they call it a pastellito. Killer!!!
4 pergolas
We had dinner here. I’ve never met a pergola I didn’t like. Plus, I’m always cold but I wasn’t cold here. We had asado (claro) and I ate cow intestines. They were pretty good, too.
5 puns
Aside from being an anagram, enamore means in love in Spanish. (Renacer means to be born again, but that will end our Spanish lesson for today.) We had their 2007 from magnums with dinner. It was a good night.
Sounds like a great trip and evening. I don’t know about the cow intestines though. I will have to give that one some thought. What a great experience about learning how they make their wine.
The intestines were surprisingly good 0 weird texture (kind of mushy) but I was determined to try every kind of meat placed in front of me.
