grape: Viognier. If you don’t love Viognier, start drinking it now. Spring is the absolute perfect time for this grape, since your glass basically turns into a bouquet of fresh flowers. Most are from the Rhone in France, but the US is making a little now too, and hooray for that.
producer: Vina Robles
country: USA
region: Paso Robles, CA
year: 2012
yum factors: Beautiful perfume of orange blossom, white flowers (despite my pretty purple hyacinths in the photo), yellow apple, and fresh almond. It has medium acidity and medium-to-light body. So lovely and elegant, and just the perfect amount of body for spring weather too.
price: $22

We discovered viognier a couple of years ago at a local winery here in north Georgia (http://serenitycellars.com/) and find it generally _excellent_ wherever we’ve had a viognier since. I wonder if the rarer/more boutique varietals tend to be more reliable than the old standards?
Could be – with smaller grape plantings maybe they’re going for the truer expression of the grape rather than putting their style stamp on it. Haven’t had one from Georgia ever, but cool to know!
Love the Viognier grape. The higher viscosity and body that comes along with it makes it such a food friendly wine.
My favourite!
love Viognier!
I’m a Viognier lover too! So underrated…
