producer: Jacob’s Creek
country: Australia
region: Coonawarra, which is known for its deep red “Terra Rosa” soil that gives its wines a lot of intensity and concentration
year: 2009
yum factors: Had this at a 9-wine Jacob’s Creek dinner last night at the Bouley Test Kitchen and this was my favorite by far. I usually don’t taste black olive in anything but Italian reds, but this was really yummy liquid black olive! Under that there was some delicious ripe blackberry and a hint of orange. Phenoms with steak.
price: $45
buy it: I can only find the 2008 vintage online right now, get it here on sale for $32
love your blog and i also love me some wine from the cooler regions of australia! have you ever had any shiraz from the grampians? it tastes like northern rhone.
Thanks, Steve! I haven’t had anything from the Grampians but will be on the lookout. LOVE Rhone wines.
