being beaujolais

I was recently inducted into the Ordre des Compagnons du Beaujolais. Created in 1948, the organization celebrates wines from the Beaujolais region. The ceremony involved a lot of Beaujolais drinking and one moment of guzzling from a tastevin which then had to be held above your head to prove you finished it all.

This year, they toasted the 100th anniversary of the Moulin-A-Vent appellation which usually produces more concentrated, structured Beaujolais. Try the Domaine Mont Bessay, a favorite from the dinner.

  2. Well that is a fine thing! I salute you! [raised glass]. I am heartened to know such a thing exists. I have Frasier Crane to thank for starting me on the road to years of Beaujolais enjoyment. Come to think of it, Don Draper spurred me into the world of Old Fashioneds, and Cary Grant’s convivial portrayal of Commander Andy Crewson had me venturing into the world of vodka stingers. It certainly appears that I am too easily influenced by likable characters!

    Well, cheers to you.
