the gift that keeps on giving

Although my true love is wine, I love the gift-ability of whiskey since it will last way longer than just one night. It makes people think of you throughout the year. Here are some ways to go:

  • Do a double barrelNomad Outland ($40) is the only Scottish Whiskey aged aged in oloroso casks in Scotland (not unusual) but it travels back to Jerez in old Pedro Ximenez casks and aged for another year in the Gonzalez Byass cellars.
  • Pour like a baller: Smooth and full bodied bourbon? Sure. With an elk pourer? Oh yeah. Get the Old Elk gift set for $60.
  • Personalize it: You can create your own message on the label of Dewar’s 12, 15, and 18 year scotch (around $30, $40, and $50).
  • Head to the danger zone: A creamy, sweet whiskey isn’t normally my thing, but I tried the Ballotin Chocolate Peanut Butter Cream ($30) one and it is delicious, like you could make yourself sick drinking so much of it delicious. Drink in small quantities.
  • Can’t make up your mind: Compass Box’s Malt Whisky Collection ($27) has three mini bottles to explore: smoky Peat Monster,  toasty Spice Tree, and citrus-red wine Story of the Spaniard.
