Today is International Whisk(e)y Day, one of those made-up holidays that celebrate a certain type of alcohol. I’m all for it, of course. You can learn about all the different types of whiskey (or whisky — learn why in the post) here, but since Mardi Gras wasn’t allowed to happen this year because of Covid I’m recommending all cool bourbons.

- Rabbit Hole Heigold: Made with a high percentage of German rye, this provides a shot of spice through smooth, rich caramel, $70.
- Puncher’s Chance: The name means “anyone has the potential to
succeed, whatever the odds or circumstances, if he or she works for it.” Just launched last fall, this caramel-orange bourbon is already fighting for the top. $32 - Jefferson’s Reserve: Dark burnt orange, fresh tobacco, and a hint of smoke give this one a bit more heft, $60
- Virgil Kaine Ginger Infused: I’m sure some purists would balk at a flavored bourbon but they’d be sorely missing out. This is SOOO delicious, and uses organic ginger that adds a really fresh, zingy spice note. They even have a whole ginger harvest fest. $39
