Last month we made mom merry with wine, this month we delight the dads. One of my dad’s favorites (and now mine) is Châteauneuf-du-Pape, a southern Rhône blend. The primary grapes are Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre although there are 13 that are officially allowed.
Although the name means the new house of the pope, “pape” is close enough to papa so extra Father’s Day points. Try these:
Château La Nerthe 2015: All the juicy blackberries and red berries with a hint of cracked black pepper. Lots of aging potential for you and your dad to pop on a future Father’s Day.
$54, BUY HERE
André Brunel 2013: Earthier and sumptuous with an herbal note, you can really sit and savor a complex glass (or a few).
$41.99 (2015 vintage), BUY HERE
Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe, La Crau: A more elegant version of the red currants and berries, one of the best. Your dad deserves it.
$84.99, BUY HERE
