It’s the Year of the Snake! I’ve seen lots of people celebrating by giving out cute little pieces of money or by eating in Chinatown. I love well-made Chinese food and with all those goopy sauces and fried dumplings, Champagne is a fantastic choice to go with.
Feel free to choose any sparkler to go with your Chinese, but Iron Horse Vineyards made a limited-edition 2004 Chinese Year of the Snake Cuvée that’s perfect! It’s 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir. I haven’t tried it but they describe it as “dry, spicy, vibrant and bright” with a silky mouthfeel.
This is the second Chinese New Year sparkling wine they made. Last year’s Dragon Cuvée was actually served at the White House when then-VP Xi Jinping came for a little visit. Get ready for next year’s Year of the Horse Cuvée!
