mad men wine: sympathy grapes

The whole episode was causing me a lot of anxiety because wine didn’t make an appearance until the last scene. Torture! But then it made up for it.

First, I don’t like how they’re manipulating me into liking Megan by having her drink wine all the time. It’s obvious and shameless. But I mean, it works. And this episode she got double sympathy because of what happened (I won’t spoiler you) and then because she was drinking good grapes.

Enter Detective Grapefriend. So first we just see that she’s drinking red wine at dinner. Yay! Exciting!photo 1

You can’t see it in these crappy pics I’m stuck with, but when I went in for the closeup in real life I got a “Co…” on the left side and a “Rotie” on the other.picstitch

Obviously, a Côte-Rôtie!!! Megan is really impressive with her tour de France of wine. She’s rocked Bordeaux, Burgundy, Chablis and now a Côte-Rôtie. Also, yum. Côte-Rôtie is from the northern Rhone and means “roasted coast” in French. It’s made with all Syrah grapes that’ve been ripened on sun-drenched slopes and it’s a good option for lasagna. Most people would pair it with an Italian (lots of Italian reds have a lot of acid that matches well with the acid in the tomato-heavy dishes) but I’m with Megan – I’d go Côte-Rôtie. It’s a good full-bodied match and I just like it better.

Then, as a reward for having to wait til the end, I get Julie filling up Megan’s glass. And she’s gonna need more than one refill if she finds out what’s really going on, so Julie should probably move in.photo 1 (1)

  1. As soon as Sally asked the doorman for the keys I KNEW what she was gonna find. Ack! Twisty and turny. This season started slow but the last few episodes have been awesome. And of course, I watch ever week with a glass(es) of vino 😉
